How drives feel like?

 

Tesla Model 3 is the small car in Tesla’s range, but it’s still pretty large at 4.69 meters long. Like all of Tesla’s cars, the Model 3 is fully electric. It comes with choice of two versions:

·         Performance: all-wheel drive with two motors, each independently controlling the front and rear axles; claimed range of 329 miles; top speed is 145mph, or 162mph with the optional Performance pack.

 

·         Standard Range Plus: rear-wheel drive; Tesla claimed range of 254 miles on a single charge; top speed of 140mph and 0 to 60mph in 5.3 seconds.



 

The Dual Motor AWD model has been tested with its two electric motors. It offers an extraordinary amount of power, and Tesla’s rapid acceleration continues to thrill. There’s no doubt this is an incredibly quick car. It can even seem too frantic at times, though, so you may wish to turn on ‘Chill mode’ to take the edge off when you’re in the mood for a more casual drive. The Model 3 runs exceptionally smoothly, so travelling can seem like a breeze. The single-speed automatic transmission couldn’t be simpler, either. The suspension is also quite stiff, so low-speed drives around town aren’t as smooth as you might hope – this is a car that likes to be at higher speeds on the open road. Tesla’s ‘Autopilot’ self-driving system is also included. Tesla claims this allows the car to steer, accelerate and brake automatically to avoid other vehicles or pedestrians.

 

How’s its interior?

 

The Tesla Model 3 comes with a panoramic glass roof as standard, which gives it an airy feel. As well as heated side mirrors and a Bluetooth media system. The sound system is excellent, base is strong and the high tones are sharp and clear. All the Model 3 cars with the exception of the Standard Range versions have the immersive premium sound system. There are two upgraded trim levels: Partial Premium adds heated front seats, navigation, a 12-speaker audio system, LED fog lamps and a center console with USB ports Premium gives you internet streaming, and an upgraded navigation and audio system. Tesla gives its cars ‘over-the-air’ software updates, which can bring in new features and even give the car a performance boost. Surprisingly, however, neither Apple CarPlay nor Android Auto is available for optimal linking to your phone. Boot space is a decent 385 liters and doubles this if you fold down the rear seats. Unlike the Tesla Model S, which has a hatchback-style boot, the aperture is restricted. There are additional storage spaces, too. These are under the floor and, thanks to the lack of engine up front, under the front bonnet.

 




Comparison with its rivals


Tesla Model 3 is far ahead of its competitor. The best indicator of competition is to compare sales of the Model 3 to other cars and see how they’re doing. Does this look like competition to you? It doesn’t to me either. The Model 3 OWNS the battery electric market for September. For all practical purposes, they have no competition in the battery electric category. The closest plug in car is the Toyota Prius Prime, with 2,213 sales in September. That’s not real competition in any sense. It was outsold by the Model S and the Model X.

Even though Tesla will allow you to get many of them in an existing car with its industry-leading over-the-air updates, the company can’t always retrofit existing cars to support every new feature.
